Ozone Treatment for Teeth in Los Angeles CA Area

With many patients looking for minimally invasive treatments in dentistry, ozone therapy from the Center for Holistic Dentistry provides a viable “way out” for such patients. Ozone therapy is a holistic treatment that alters the oral environment to ward off the advancement of tooth decay and gum disease. Unlike many traditional treatments, ozone therapy devises a conservative approach to solving dental issues. Your teeth or gums don’t need numbing, and the treatment doesn’t use chemicals that can compromise your health.

Curious about ozone therapy? Please keep scrolling as Dr. Mamta Dalwani sheds more light on this natural therapy.

How Does Ozone Therapy Work?

Ozone therapy works to disinfect your mouth using ozone gas to prevent common dental issues. The negative charge in ozone is naturally attracted to areas of infection, which not only kills the bacteria but also alters the environment to prevent the infection from spreading.

The bacteria in your mouth thrive well in an acidic environment. However, ozone neutralizes your mouth, altering the optimal PH levels for the harmful bacteria to flourish. Ozone therapy is an effective, natural preventive measure that helps patients skip extensive procedures like root canal therapy.

How Ozone Therapy is Used in Dentistry

If you didn’t know it, ozone therapy could address various issues in dentistry. Here are some ways we utilize ozone therapy in our practice:

  • Gum disease treatment: Poor oral hygiene leads to the formation of plaque and tartar, which encourages the growth of bacteria that inflames your gums. If gum disease isn’t treated, the bacteria multiply, invading not just your gums but your bone-supporting structures. Ozone treatment destroys gum disease-causing bacteria to ensure your mouth remains clean and healthy.
  • Treating cavities: If you have minor cavities, you don’t always need a dental filling. Ozone therapy can treat tiny cavities, but we must use non-metal fillings for more extensive cavities. Harmful bacteria in your mouth secrete acidic substances that weaken your enamel, leading to decay. Ozone destroys the harmful bacteria on your teeth while preserving healthy, soft tissues. Besides killing harmful bacteria, ozone remineralizes your enamel, strengthening your tooth.

Furthermore, we use ozone to disinfect your teeth before performing procedures like dental sealants, fillings, and root canals.

What to Expect During Ozone Treatment

Ozone can be applied either as a gas or a liquid. Whatever the form, we can promise you the treatment is quick and painless. No drilling or anesthesia can leave you feeling groggy. After ozone treatment, expect no downtime—you will immediately return to your everyday activities as soon as you leave our office.

The first step is to walk you through the treatment. Next, Dr. Dalwani asks you to lie on the dental chair as we prepare the treatment. The dentist turns on the ozone generator to produce ozone for treatment. The treatment is precisely delivered into your teeth and gums using custom-made trays connected to the generator. The entire process takes about 30 minutes.
