Your teeth work as a team. They support one another, each relying on the presence of the other for function and balance. If a tooth is missing or needs removal, it can compromise the integrity of your bite, causing the other teeth to wander, even threatening their underlying structures. If you’re missing a tooth or need to have one extracted, it’s essential to talk with a dentist about options such as dental implants, which can help restore the look, feel, and integrity of your bite before problems progress.
Dr. Menachem Oren at the Center for Holistic Dentistry in Los Angeles, CA, is a Board-certified Specialist in periodontology and dental implantology with years of experience providing dental implants for missing teeth. He can talk you through the process, working to understand your goals while answering any questions you may have about dental implants.
Dental implants are viewed by many to be the most robust, most reliable alternative to your natural teeth. They are natural-looking restorations that restore the look and feel of your bite. Anchored to your jawbone, they are strong, reliable, and practically invisible to the naked eye.
If you have lost a tooth or need to have one removed, Dr. Oren can help you decide if dental implants are right for you. He’ll answer any questions you have and lay out the different options available to you. With your goals in mind, you’ll work together to decide the best course of treatment for your unique situation.
If dental implants are suitable for you, you’ll begin with a comprehensive examination. Dr. Oren will use advanced 3D imaging to examine your bite, the area of focus, and its underlying structures. He’ll use those images to have a unique crown manufactured that will restore your bite precisely and effectively.
To begin treatment, he’ll numb the area and access your jawbone via your gum tissue. He’ll use a special drill to make a small hole in your jawbone, into which he’ll place a biocompatible rod. He’ll then sew up the small wound, and you’ll be sent home with a temporary crown. Over several weeks, your jawbone will naturally integrate the biocompatible rod. This rod will serve as the anchor for your implant, granting it the exact source of strength as your natural teeth.
Once the healing is complete and your final crown is ready, you’ll return to Dr. Oren for the placement of the crown. This part is easy. Then lastly, the crown screws into place on the rod, and you’ll be all set. Dr. Oren will review any care instructions you’ll need, and you’ll be able to head home soon after. Should your crown become cracked or fall out due to unexpected trauma, he can easily replace it. The crown screws on and off, so Dr. Oren can remove it and replace it with a new one, if necessary.
Care for your implant consists of little more than what you’d do for your natural teeth—brushing, flossing, and routine check-ups with Dr. Oren. With proper maintenance, your implant can last for many years.
